Xing Fu Tang - The Number 1 Milk Tea in Taiwan

The best Brown Sugar Milk Tea I've ever tasted was Xing Fu Tang in Taipei, Taiwan .   It's even called Taiwan's No.1 Brown Sugar Boba Milk Tea... And for good reason!  The branch that I visited was hidden in a corner walking distance away from Ximen Station. A line of people gathered around the store. Usually, their service is fast so there's not that long of a wait.       My family and I ordered a variety of different drinks from Xing Fu Tang... Brown Sugar Boba Milk Tea, Brown Sugar Boba Milk, and Taro Milk Tea on two different  occasions.     I've got to say, I love them all... But the Iced Brown Sugar Boba Milk Tea holds a special place in my heart.         Their cream is so rich and thick, it's almost like melted ice cream... Actually, scrap that. It's like you're drinking chilled heavy cream. It's good.  Their boba is tender and chewy... Surprisingly, despite being fried in sugar it's not overwhelmingly sw...

Umeko - Buttery Delicious Unagi (Japanese style Eel ) in Taipei Taiwan

If you find yourself craving for legitimate Japanese food in Taiwan, then I highly recommend that you go to Umeko.

It’s famous for it’s Japanese food and it’s one restaurant that can definitely compete with the stuff I have eaten in Japan.

As we were not quite sure what we should order, we decided to go for their set menu NT$480 (PHP 800). We ordered their eel set which cost an additional NT$50 (PHP 83.46).

Appetizer

The first course that they brought out was their sashimi. It consisted of two pieces of salmon and a single piece of snapper.

Their sashimi appetizer was so good it brought tears to my eyes.

It brought back memories of the delicious omakase I had in Japan

The fish was so incredibly fresh and cool. You could really taste the sweetness of each piece of fish. The salmon had a certain fattiness to it that was so incredibly sweet.

I savored each bite... hoping... praying that it wouldn't end.

But alas, three pieces is three pieces.

Salad

Then they served the salad. I was surprised to see how beautiful they made it look. They even cut up the apples in the salad like that in the anime.

The salad consisted of an apple, a cherry tomato, red cabbage, lettuce, and a sweet citrus fruit.

For the dressing they used a sesame based vinaigrette that gave a refreshing and light feel to the salad.

This served as a palate cleanser to the following courses they served.

Side Dish

The chawanmushi had a crab stick and seafood inside it. It had a delicate taste and flavor. I'm personally not a fan of chawanmushi but the dish was well made and quite palatable for me. It had chicken hidden inside.

Soup

The miso soup was interesting. It was a very clear soup which was surprising. It had clams hidden within the soup and had a delicate taste of seafood within it.

Main Course

Now, for the main course... If their sashimi was so good it brought tears to my eyes... The unagi I ate here was so tender delicious I was still hungry for more. In fact, this is probably the best unagi that I have ever eaten in my entire life.

The flesh was so rich and melted in my mouth and was so buttery rich.

The seasoning brought out the natural sweetness of the eel and was so well prepared that there was ABSOLUTELY NO muddiness whatsoever.

The rice was perfectly plump and fluffy and helped compliment the richness of the eel. This is a place that is certainly worth visiting at least once for their eel.

It was so good, after I ate the eel, I was still hungry afterwards. I felt I could easily demolish three more platters of eel. That's how amazing this was.

Dessert

I was still hungover that delicious eel and sashimi and then I was served this...
Almond jelly with candied pineapple. I was personally not a fan of this dish... I felt it ruined the meal... Not a great way to end the meal but it was what I was given. I tried to wash away the taste with the miso soup I had left.

So this are my ratings for the restaurant:

Quality & Impact: 4.5 / 5

I wanted to give a full 5/5 score because of how wonderfully outstanding their eel and sashimi. The symphony of the meal was amazing from the sashimi to the main course. But because of their significantly underwhelming dessert I decided to drop it down to a 4.5 / 5.

Service: 5 / 5

They were very kind and let us in earlier then the opening time.

Cleanliness: 4 / 5

The restaurant looked clean and there were no cleanliness incidents or issues but there was just an unusual scent in the air that I was not fond of.

Ambiance: 4 / 5

Cool Japanese vibe.

Value: 5 / 5

This meal is definitely completely worth it for it's quality and excellence. This is a meal worth going out of your way for in Taiwan especially if you are a fan of Japanese style eel.

Over All Rating: 4.5 / 5

It's a restaurant that is worth going to if you love Japanese food... Especially eel! This is the BEST eel I've eaten in my life.
